The collection consists of six volumes of typed poems by Melton, published and unpublished; a volume of twenty-five typed sermons by Melton; and two volumes containing essays and a novellette by Melton and scattered correspondence, 1922-1923, 1936-1942, and 1951-1955, chiefly relating to Melton's writings.

Anson Gustavus Melton (1890-1960) of Cleveland County, N.C., was a Baptist minister and contributor of poems and articles to newspapers and magazines. He published a volume of poetry entitled Where is Love? in 1938. He also worked for the Historical Records Survey in Cleveland County.
